Since we’ve opened, we’ve been dedicated to changing the lives of people one person at a time, through martial arts, education and coaching. We strive to provide a safe, comfortable and welcoming atmosphere for all students and family members in . We take pride in creating an environment for individuals to achieve, develop and succeed in their personal goals.
We strongly believe that martial arts can be for everyone, regardless of age, gender or experience levels. Throughout all of our programs, students will not only learn the necessary skill sets to protect themselves, we stand behind our realistic and practical approach, confident it will enable every member to achieve greatness and live their best life..
Get To Know Our World Class Instructors
Mike Genova, Owner
Mike Genova opened Genova Family Karate in May 1975. Since then, he has been working diligently to bring Martial Arts opportunities to the youth in the Midlands Community. Looking forward, Mike hopes to continue working with members of our community to help students learn how to be productive members of society.
James Kelley, Instructor
A Second Degree Black Belt, James has recently graduated from The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina. James enjoys working with our Summer Campers and in-studio students throughout the week. In the future, James hopes to open his own Martial Arts School to help reach those in need with the Gospel through karate.
Caitlyn Carlo, Head Instructor
Currently a 4th Degree Black Belt, Caitlyn started taking karate classes in 2003, and is currently student at Midlands Technical College. She is set to graduate in 2021, and hopes to pursue a career in Physical Therapy. She enjoys teaching our karate students during the week. Caitlyn is a compassionate leader and true team player, and is always happy to help out wherever she is needed.
Kelly Duncan, Office Manager
Kelly graduated from Central Carolina Technical College with her Associate’s in Arts in 2015, and graduated from Columbia College with her Bachelor’s in Community and Organizational Leadership in 2017. Working behind the scenes to help cultivate our programs and events, Kelly hopes to continue to help you and your students have an exciting karate experience with Genova Family Karate.
